Awesome Vegan Yarns! →
I *choose* to knit without animal fur yarn because of the animal cruelty and exploitation that is involved with these yarns (do a google search to get informed). How is it possible to forgo animal fur yarn in knitting? What are the alternatives? Well, apart from being completely animal-free and cruelty-free, they are made from a long list of plant and synthetic fibers. You may be surprised to...

Urban knitting (yarnbombing) has reached... →
Except it is categorized as sprayed graffiti…(see article link).
Is it the same for other countries?
BTW, looking for craftivists and/or charity knitters in Switzerland. If any happen to come by this blog, get in touch :D

Yarnbombing...this may be a bit controversial.
I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about “yarnbombing.” In truth, i’m not overly excited about it. I guess some things that put me off about it is that I’ve seen posts with “yarn ornaments” made from things like plastic garbage bags. A big concern for me is the use of non-biodegradable fibers being left to add to the degradation of our already suffering...

Charity Knitting (& Other) Doesn't Make a...
I’ve encountered a few individuals that insist that making things for people in need makes no difference, doesn’t change anything, or help anyone. They tell me that donating sums of money does.
Well, I (still) beg to differ. I received the following letter from the shelter where I donated the knitted and crocheted items I collected last fall for a homeless project drive. I donated all...

KnitRiot Strikes Homeless Shelter →
domestitch:
“Just before dusk, the anonymous group threw a blank tarp against a wall, tied up strands of rope, and hung knitted beanies, scarves, and blankets with clothes pins. As soon they created the installation, they vanished without a trace, except the note “For You! Warmly, KnitRiot” at the base of the wall.”
Yesssss!!!!!!! Love this…
What should my next project be? I’m in between knitted/crocheted baby animal nests used by Wildlife rescue groups in the US OR pouches for rescued baby marsupials in Australia…hmm… oh, so cute! Links soon :)
It’s been a while since my last post!! I’ve been so busy since the start of December. I wanted to update on the homeless charity drive that I hosted - overall it has been a lovely experience to see how many caring charity crafters there are out there. YOU ROCK!! I collected lots of warm items, wrapped and tagged them with little Xmas cards, and personally delivered them to the shelter...

Today’s plan: wrapping the donated warm items that I have received so far for the homeless in my community! I’m using green and red raffia string tied off with a cute greeting card with the message, “Handmade just for you. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.” in French, of course! Let’s see how they turn out… :)
Anyone have a charity project they are working...

How awesome is this?! A contest just for charity knitters and crocheters.
From the website: “I’m hosting the Charity Challenge to encourage knitters and crocheters to donate a little bit of your time this holiday season to make something warm to help someone in need. The concept is simple: Each time you knit or crochet an item for a good cause (of your choice) between November 1, 2011 and...

“Use what you do to help.”
Crafts/art come in many forms, such as this one. Consider how you can use what you do/make to create change, awareness, or help an individual in your community or abroad on your own or with the help of your fellow crafters.

Just some thoughts…

Back to Penguins... →
First off, you must visit this link to look at some actual (and adorable) penguins in their sweaters. It will melt your heart (a little sweetness amongst the uglyness of the whole situation to pump you up).
Second, they have enough BUT will take sweaters in case of future spills, so they have a ready stash. See my prev posts for pattern. Where to send is on this link <3

NZ Oil Spill Penguin Sweater Pattern →
NEW OIL SPILL OFF NZ - Sweaters are a staple during oil spill penguin rescue operations. This is the actual pattern…They have collected enough sweaters at the moment, but you can keep tabs on whether more are needed on the link mentioned below. It’s so sad that there are so many oils spills and wildlife are always the ones affected by these. I’ll probably make one of these to...

A reminder & inspiration...
“…I got lost in the notion that to help the common good, you had to do big things or write big checks, but then again, that’s what happens when you don’t take the time to see how you as an individual are best equipped to aid others. While some people are meant to donate large sums of money, others are meant to donate their time, knowledge, and skills.” - a wonderful...

Proposing A Charity Project to the Knitting...
…is not as easy as it may seem but definitely still worth a try.
I became inspired to help the local homeless in my community by other charity knitters. I decided to propose to my local community that knitters, crocheters, and other crafty people help/get involved by making and donating scarves, mittens, gloves, OR socks to help keep these people warm and give them a bit of holiday cheer. I...

Finished My Hen Sweater/Jumper :D
…I just have to add buttons! Picture coming soon (as soon as I learn to sew on a button, haha). To start my button process, I went to my local Salvation Army store yesterday and found a bin full of buttons! I prefer wooden ones, so I snatched up all the ones I could find plus a few non-wooden ones too. I think I got over 30 buttons and a second-hand crochet needle for 1 CHF (about $1.50)!
