Project Craftivism |
Craft + Activism = Craftivism= Changing the world & reaching out one person (human & non-human) at a time through craftivism and art. These are the projects that I get up to in my craftivism...all my finished projects are veganized in order to be both human & non-human-friendly. Know of any projects? Submit them! No? Pick one here and get involved! :) |
Made this little guy for a friend as a going away mini-present! Talk about biology geeks, hehehe I think I will make these for all my lab mates! B-day presents?!
Reducing your consumerism is the craftivist way, and handmade carries so much more thought and care behind it. Who wouldn’t love a handmade pressie :D
Shroom pattern from Ravelry.
Finished wildlife rescue knitted nest!! :D
Such a sweet and quite helpful project.
To get involved, search for the pattern on my blog or search Ravelry for both knitted and crocheted nest patterns.
Contact me for where to send or again, search this blog for the info. The wildlife rescue hospitals I contacted (in the USA) said they use these nests every single day, so they always welcome more.
Happy crafting for wildlife!
See the finished project “Container Love”, which brought a little cheer to Christchurch, NZ, earthquake victims.
Use your crafty skills for good!
The ugly truth behind the wool industry.
This is partly why I CHOOSE to knit and overall craft without using wool or any animal fur/body part. The other part is because I don’t believe animals are products or things to be exploited and put through such misery. They are living beings that deserve the same respect and treatment as I would want. Whether large farm or small, it is exploitation in my eyes. Let’s not get into breeding and the issues with that in all animal farming…
Please choose cruelty-free: plant, recycled, synthetic fibers. For a list of cruelty-free fibers, click here.
This is why I CHOOSE to knit and craft without wool or any animal product; and therefore, cruelty-free. Wool is far from free of animal abuse and misery :(
Whether large farm or small, it is exploitation. Let’s not get into breeding and the issues with that in all animal farming…To me other animals are living beings that deserve the same respect and consideration that I expect. Animals are neither products nor things to be used/exploited.

My friend, Sam, made me these awesome drawstring baggies to carry my yarn/needles for trips and for KIPing (one of my fave things to do!). I love them all! She made 4 different sizes in patterns that I have had stashed since my college art project days (not that long ago but lets just say a little over half a decade lol). Anyway, I think that the fact that they are handmade just for me (not mass produced) and in patterns that I really like makes me appreciate them that much more. Thanks, Sam!!

Finished booties that I made for a coworker. I wanted to wait until I gave them to her before posting. This pattern is called Sweet Baby Booties and can be found on Ravelry.
I love making things for others. It puts a huge smile on my face to pick the colors and pattern with that person in mind. Whether for a human or non-human recipient
“I love the idea of the relationship between craft and activism. Just thinking about it gives me that “I’ve come home” kind of feeling…Let’s just say that art that is interactive, hands-on, tactile, and makes people think and question, is all fine in my book.”
Yes, I do knit and make other crafty things :D Unfortunately, my arm is still not doing 100%. I’m not allowed to do much with it under doctor’s orders, booooo!! As a result, I don’t have many projects to share, but I still plan on finishing all the aforementioned projects in my previous posts. I hope you will join me.
Remember you can always submit project, ideas, questions, etc to this blog. They are very welcome.
In the mean time, here’s the nifty vegan knitting video (Sh*t Vegan Knitters Say) I made last weekend once again (in case you missed it!). If you like it, give it some love! Thanks to this video, I have realized there are still many myths, misconceptions, and misinformation re: veganism and why a vegan does not knit with animal fur (wool) or silk, for example. If you have any questions on this topic, feel free to drop me a line.
Happy weekend knitting! :)
